• Toshogu Shrine : Toshogu Shrine is known as Nikko landmark, the most famous shrine in Nikko Area. Toshogu Shrine has also been registered as UNESCO heritage. The shrine is set in a beautiful forest, consisting of more than a dozen buildings. There are countless wood carvings and large amounts of gold leaf that were used to decorate the buildings.
• Irohazaka Winding Road : Irohazaka (いろは坂) is a road that connects the lower elevations near central Nikko to the higher elevations of the mountainous Okunikko region. This road consist of total 48 hairpin turns and is really famous for its beautiful views of autumn colors.
• Akechidaira Plateau : Akechidaira Plateau (明智平) is located near the top of the ascending Irohazaka Winding Road. There are also ropeway from here that takes around three minutes to an observation platform further up the mountain for very spectacular views over Kegon Waterfall and Lake Chuzenji. Akechidaira Plateau is also a popular spot to enjoy the beautiful autumn colors.
• Lake Chuzenji Cruise : Lake Chuzenji is a scenic lake in the mountains in Okunikko Area. Lake Chuzenji is especially beautiful during autumn time around mid to late October when the autumn colors reach its peak. The best activity to do here is to ride cruise ship to cruise around Lake Chuzenji. While sitting in the cruise ship, you will see the beautiful lake and mountain covered in colorful autumn leaves.
• Kegon Waterfall : Kegon Waterfall has the height of 100 meter and is the most famous waterfall among many beautiful waterfall in Nikko. In fact, it is even ranked as one of Japan’s three most beautiful falls. Kegon Waterfall can be seen from a free observation platform as well as paid platform at the base of the falls. There will be elevator takes you down 100 meter to the base of Kegon Waterfall which offer more spectacular views.
